| Illinois State Cup competition ended on this
past weekend with interesting results for the Sockers FC
organization: |
- Sockers U19 Girls beat
Eclipse and the heat to get their ticket to the Regional Event,
in a dramatic comeback with only 10 minutes left in the game.
U19 Girls had an earlier lead 1x0 but Eclipse took advantage of
two quick counter attacks and put a 2x1 score in the board which
it seemed pretty definite. Sockers pushed hard to score 2 great
goals in the last minutes of this exciting game and secured the
win to become State Champs 2005.

 |
- Sockers FC U18 Boys
beat Magic by 3x0 in a tighter game than the score shows.
Despite of the loss Magic also qualified to go to the Regional
Tournament along with the Sockers. Two beautiful headers, one in
each half by Herrick and Husidic, gave the Sockers the lead they
needed to control the game from one box to another. Tyler
wrapped up the score by digging hard between Magic's defender
and goalkeeper to get the ball and then curving it into the net,
from a tough angle.

- Sockers U19 Boys repeated
the treat by defeating Magic 3x0 and bringing back the winning
edge they enjoyed as U14 in Nike Cup 2000 and Kellogg's All Star
Bowl 2000. It's never too late to have fun.

- Sockers U15 Boys came
close to win but fell short of winning the State Championship
for the second year of being in the final. Rockford played
defensively well to keep an early lead for almost the whole
game. U15 Boys tied with less than 15 minutes left in the game,
with a goal by Francesco, taking it into overtime. A
header by Raptors forward turned into gold and gave the State
Championship to the Rockford team. Sockers U15 Boys was already
qualified to be in the Regional Tournament however losing the
State was not in their plans.

- Sockers U15 Girls won
the rights to be in the Regional Event with Magic's win over
Eclipse. Sockers took second place in the Midwest Regional
League in the spring and came close to be in the finals of
State, losing to Eclipse in a tough break. Despite of the
bad luck, U15 Girls will have another opportunity to prove
themselves in the Regional Tournament in two weeks.
- Sockers U17 Boys also got
their spot to be in the Regional Tournament by winning the
Midwest Regional League recently. The Midwest Regional League is
sponsored by Region II Association and reserve a birth to the
winner of its division in the Regional Event to be held from
June 24 to 29 in Sioux Falls, in South Dakota.
Congratulations to all of them. |
