Where Are They Now?

U19 Sockers Highlights

Julian Dieterle and Brian Plotkin are National Champions again, this time as starters for Indiana UniversityÕs storybook championship ending to Coach Jerry YeagleyÕs fabulous career.  Julian was named Big 10 Defensive Player of the Week this fall, while Brian last year (2002) was Big Ten Freshman of the Year and a leading scorer on IndianaÕs team this year.  Congratulations to Indiana on a fabulous season and to these 2 Sockers players who were major contributors to the championship season!

Jeff Mills, Dan Chille and Gerardo Alvarez also had a great year at Northwestern University.  They joined 2 of our U20 players, defender Yaro Pylypczak and goalkeeper Brian Heckenbach.  Gerardo received several honors, including Co-Big Ten Freshman of the Year and set a record for the most points ever scored by a freshman at NU.

Ryan Nikchevich had a successful season at Marquette and received minutes in every game.  He was joined by Brian Dalquist who is a member of the Sockers U18 team.

Matt Galanes and Mike Sims joined a fellow teammate Dustin Weiher at Eastern Illinois.  Matt played in every game, started in the last 5 games and scored a game winning goal.  Unfortunately, goalkeeper Sims was injured in the beginning of the season and was red shirted for the year.

Henrick Turk, Sean McGinnis and Sean Marshall enjoyed their season at Valparaiso.  However, Sean is looking to transfer this next year and may join fellow teammate defender Ben Dyon at Stetson College in Florida.  Ben held down a starting position all season for Stetson--and he also became a skillful surfer as a side benefit!

Will Wennerth played for University of Chicago and was awarded the Best Freshman Soccer Award from the University.

Ryan Miller joined fellow Sockers U20 player John Stevens at Notre Dame.  Ryan played in 2 games for Notre Dame, starting in the second game, before he tore his ACL at a practice before their first conference game.  Red-shirt Ryan rehabbed for 6 months and has just last week put in 30 minutes of game time while training again with his team in Bradenton, Florida.

Gabe Leon had a very successful season with Lewis University but has decided not to return to school for the next fall season.

Charlie Lambropoulos had a great year at Colgate and is looking forward to another successful year next fall.

Erik Schuett did not enjoy his year at Hope College and is looking to transfer next fall.

Tyler Pagano played for the University of Massachusetts. Unfortunately, he sustained a back injury and was unable to complete the season.

Craig Oldis attended Emery Riddle in Florida and Rory Murtaugh attended Butler with fellow Sockers player Scott Olsen.  As of this date I have not received updates from them.
